First of all, let us blow some air kisses to Madame Samm and Jane for the organization of this blog hop. Thank you so much!
As for valentines day, I have two "problems" with this day:
First of all, it is the day before my husbands birthday - isn't that mean? So I have to find two meaning full gifts for two following days. Not easy sometimes.
Second, I have to tell you: In Germany we celebrate this day differently. It is not a day where everybody tells everybody how much she loves him, it is a day that is reserved for romantic lovers - boyfriend and girlfriend, fiancee and husband to be, if she is lucky enough, husband and wife - and that's it. No parties at school, no teacher appreciation valentines edition lunch at school, no balloons, no treats :-) So last year, my poor son was the only child who brought nothing to preschool - because we just didn't knew what we were supposed to do for this day :-) But this year, we got it!
So, what did I make?
As a mom of four, I do have a problem with tablecloths, they are full of stains after 10 minutes on the table (which is a fraction of the time one needs for ironing it), and it is dangerous for young children. But a naked table doesn't look good either. That is why I love table runners.
For the valentines theme, I choose hearts:
and, of course, it does lay on my table, not in the garden :-) but the light is better outside.
So for valentines day, I can imaging having a nice coffee & cake (Kaffee und Kuchen) time in the afternoon, with a nice set up table like this:
The table runner is pretty easy made, just one charm pack of valentines day fabric
Flirt by Sandy Garvais for moda
some neutral linen and thats it.
I used 4 charms of each color to make one big square and cut out a heart shape, which I ironed with heat and bond on the fabric.
I've sewn nearly the rest of the fabric together and cut in half for the border, and here we go.
I think I will even put this table runner on the table when valentines day is over, it will be pretty for every day too.
I wish you all a wonderful day, have a great time or even a party with your kids, husbands and friends, hope to see you all back soon, thank you so much for stopping by
Tina

AntwortenLöschenVery cute runner, thanks for sharing it, happy Valentine's day!
AntwortenLöschenHappy Valentine's Day! In this country everyone gets to share the love just for fun but it is still a holiday for romantics. Your table runner is beautiful. I would put it on the table anytime I wanted to let the family know they are loved everyday.
AntwortenLöschenSweet runner and I LOVE the pillow in your page header.
AntwortenLöschenHow sweet! I think the pillow in your header is fabulous too! I wish that my table could be cleaned off long enough to enjoy a table runner that cute. :-) Thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenGorgeous runner - thank you for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenYour runner is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing
AntwortenLöschenYour runner is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenAt first I thought it was that FABULOUS pillow at the top of your page - LOVE that pillow. Then i saw the runner. Now that quilting is so beautiful! The runner is perfect for a family with young children (may I say that my older children, 20s and 30s, still spill things on the table!!). I love San Francisco and wish you many happy days there (I'm from San Jose many years ago). So glad your son now has the story right about our crazy American holidays.
AntwortenLöschenLove the modern heart runner! Great project!
AntwortenLöschenI love the header pillow. Great idea!
AntwortenLöschenI really enjoyed your runner and I also love the pillow at the top...Happy Valentine's Day
AntwortenLöschenBeautiful project. at least with the table runners you can throw them in the wash if the cids spil on them or they are easier to remove for meals.
AntwortenLöschenHappy Valentine's Day! lovely projects.
AntwortenLöschenLove your runner but the pillow at the top of your blog steals the show! :)

AntwortenLöschenI love the Flirt line - the colors are so vibrant and beautiful in it. Perfect choice! Thank you for sharing your project and Happy Valentine's Day!
It must be difficult figuring out these crazy American customs! They change from state to state, also!
AntwortenLöschenYour table runner is so nice! What a great way to decorate for your family!
Cute table runner .. happy Vday

AntwortenLöschenYour table runner is beautiful and I also love the pillow in your header.Thank you for sharing.
AntwortenLöschengreat table runner, that such a good way to make the home more in the mood! thank's for sharing, have a nice valentin's day
AntwortenLöschenSweet table runner.
AntwortenLöschenLove your pillow and table runner. Don't feel bad about American customs, from a retired teacher, each school has their own "accepted" behaviors, just ask the teacher what they usual practice is and I'm sure whatever you do will be fine. For stains on tablecloths, go to your local Joann's and buy some clear vinyl the size of your table cloth and put it on top of your cloth to protect it from stains. This is probably the easiest and most economical way to protect precious table cloths from spills. I have a table cloths that came with a laminate already on it and I love it. You can also buy a sheet to laminate onto tablecloths, but it could be tricky and expensive as well. Also from NoCAL, SF Bay Area, thanks for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenHappy Valentine's Day! Thanks for sharing and participating in the hop!
AntwortenLöschenYour table runner is just lovely--it really does make the table look nice! And I'm glad you and your kids have discovered how Valentines is celebrated in the U.S. Have a happy Valentines Day!
AntwortenLöschenKids or no kids, that just bring great joy to any table! Thanks for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenOh, your poor son! I bet he felt so badly. Now all is well in the US. It is difficult as holidays are celebrated differently in different parts of the world. Holidays are celebrated differently even within families. As I was growing up and not knowing any different, I just assumed that everyone else celebrated all the holidays in the same way we did. The first inkling that they didn't was when my brother got married and the family he married into did not celebrate holidays much differently. Your tablerunner is beautiful and your table set with is is wonderful. Thank you for taking time to blog and inspire us. Thank you for sharing for experiences, too.
AntwortenLöschenHappy Valentine's Day!! Love the Pillow and table runner. I like place mats and can easily put in washer/dryer. Good way to learn new ideas also.
AntwortenLöschenCute tablerunner. I also like the LOVE pillow in your header. Thanks for being part of the hop.
AntwortenLöschenThank you for sharing your lovely creation and Happy Valentine's Day to you from Judy C in NC

AntwortenLöschenOh that is so soft and pretty. I love that fabric line! and I will say Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family.
AntwortenLöschenTime for coffee! My mom and MIL are German so we have coffee breaks ingrained in us at a young age:) haha!!!
AntwortenLöschenThat will be a lovely table setting for today!
So very pretty! I would use it for more than Valentines Day too! Glad your little boy will have a better Valentines this year. What can I say, we Americans are sappy when it comes to mushy love and stuff :) Glad you are here!

Lovely work!! thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenWhat a sweet project ... I agree, it is good enough to use every day. I'm with you on the tablecloth thing, but I can't get my kids to replace the runner after they clear away our meals so they usually end up on the piano or mantle. Oh, well ... Thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenPretty table runner - thamks for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenPretty, pretty runner! It looks beautiful on your table. You are right, you can use this runner for more than just one day. Thanks for sharing, super job!
AntwortenLöschenusairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
So sweet! I love all the ideas I keep seeing made from charm packs. Fun and easy! Happy Valentine's Day!
AntwortenLöschenRosemary B here: this is beautiful. You always make such sweet and creative things! I like coming here and seeing your ideas. You are right about things getting dirty seconds after they are on the table with the kids. My girls are grown up now and it is just me and my husband. He works at home and makes a lot of messes too haha
AntwortenLöschenI think you are right about how in Europe this is celebrated differently. The English and the Americans really know how to commercialize everything and anything. I am glad your son was prepared this year, good thing he is only small still.
Have a fun day and thank you for sharing today. I love this!
Rosemary B here: I just saw that you got top two!
LöschenThis is not a surprise to me :-)
Ausgezeichnet und wunderbar
What a beautiful table runner! Thanks so much for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenVery pretty! You make is sound so simple!
AntwortenLöschenlove your simple and clean line graphics and such a practical idea! My Dutch heritage also uses the word kuchen, and we always have something sweet standing by for callers...thanks for hopping with us!
AntwortenLöschenEnjoy your Valentine's Day meal on the table with your runner!
AntwortenLöschenI'll have to admit I was surprised to see that "The German Mom" had a pillowcase with LOVE on it. :) I was glad to read your story and find out you're now living in the USA. You also made to think of my mom who made 'Coffee Kuchen' for us. It was a sweet bread top and bottom with a mixture of apples, sugar, and cinnamon filling (almost like a pie), It had cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top. It was a recipe she'd learned from my dad's mother. Thanks for the memory. Happy V Day! I love your 4-patch hearts.
AntwortenLöschenHi!! Love your sweet table runner!!! Very pretty!!! Thank You
AntwortenLöschenSweet table runner! Thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenPretty! Thanks for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenI not a big fan of a 'naked' table or the table cloth...no time to iron them, but I do luv table runners...your's sEw sweet, perfect for Valentines day. Great job, thanks for the inspiration! Happy stitching, Pauline
AntwortenLöschenI like making table runners. Love yours and I would keep it on the table after today too. Thanks for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenYour table runner is wonderful. I agree with your about naked tables. They really do need some covering and a table runner is the perfect answer. Thanks for sharing your creations with us today. :-)
AntwortenLöschenThat is a beautiful tablerunner!
AntwortenLöschenI think Valentines day in the US was originally how it is in Germany. But over the years I think no one wanted to hurt others feelings, so everyone is included. Even pets, geez.
I love the patchwork heart table runner! It's awesome! Thanks for sharing!
