Genäht: Pepin tote by Noodlehead (English / German blog post) 🇺🇸🇩🇪

I am and absolute sucker for Anna’s patterns, and I would buy a lifelong flat rate for her patterns in a heart beat, because she newer disappoints. Her instructions are super clear and easy to follow, and the finished product is always perfectly constructed.

This new pattern, pepin tote, was first published in Spring 2020 in making magazine No 9 / simple.

As soon as I saw it, I wanted it to carry binders and paperwork to school. But it is also a great tote to just throw your waterbottle, purse, keys, eBook reader and mask (hello, 2020) in to head to the playground or a coffee date.

Directions, as always, delightful clear and easy and smart. Only addition: @aneelahoey ‘s heck for boxed corner lining perfection.

Right now, this pattern is only available 

in the making magazine (which is beautiful and has an abundance of beautiful crafting patterns) but it will probably be available at Anna’s website in 6 to 12 months. 

This is a great beginner pattern, but it is also just a pure pleasure to sew for advanced makers.

It is easily possible to stitch this tote up in like 90 minutes, but it looks absolutely professional.

The fabric is dry oil skin by Merchant and Mills, what is like the most perfect bag material ever. It is super easy to sew with, but has a lot of stand - only the lining of the tote is reinforced with Pellon SF 101, nothing else, but the tote still stand upright empty.

Ich bin ein totaler Fan von Anna Grahams Schnittmustern, weil ich jedes einzelne vom Design her leiden mag und ihre Anleitung einfach phantastisch gut sind. Da sitzt einfach alles.

Dieses neue Schnittmuster ist im Frühjahr 2020 in dem Making Magazine Nummer 9 / simple erschienen, und genau so ist auch die Tasche: einfach, aber perfekt.

Ich wollte sie sofort haben, weil ich ab und zu mal Aktenordner oder dicke Papierberge umherschleppe, und mir war sofort klar, dass das die Tasche dafür ist,

Aber auch als einfache Handtasche fur einen Sprung ins Café oder auf den Spielplatz ist sie perfekt. Es gibt die Möglichkeit, oben zusätzlich einen Magnetverschluss einzuarbeiten, meine Freundin hat auch schon eine mit Reißverschluss genäht. 

Bisher war es immer so, dass Annas Schnittmuster aus dem Making magazine (leider sehr teuer und nicht so einfach zu bekommen in Deutschland) 6-12 Monate später auch digital auf ihrer Webseite erhältlich waren. 

Dies ist ein tolles Schnittmuster für Anfänger, aber auch für erfahrene Näher einfach eine traumhafte Anleitung fur ein schnelles Projekt - ca 90 Minuten, würde ich sagen.

Ich habe als Stoff den Dry Oil Skin von Merchant & Mills saus der Mai Box von Das mach ich nachts verwendet.

Der pinkfarbene Stoff hat haargenau für das Außenteil gereicht, und weil ich von dem gelben Dry Oil Skin schon mal einen Meter hatte und daraus unter anderem - wirklich, Zufall - den Making Rucksack und die Redwood Tote von Noodlehead genäht habe, hat meine Freundin netterweise mit mir getauscht, ich habe ihren pinken Stoff bekommen und sie meinen gelben.

Daraus habe ich dann noch die Futterstreifen und die Vordertasche zugeschnitten.

Dry Oil Skin ist einfach toll in der Verarbeitung, und die Tasche ist innen im Futter nur mit gewebter Einlage verstärkt, steht aber trotzdem von alleine.

Von dieser Tasche werde ich garantiert noch einige nähen!

Genäht: Flipping out - byAnnie 🇩🇪

Kann man sich kaum vorstellen, aber dieser Blog hat mal nicht als Lese-, sondern als Nähblog angefangen.

Ich nähe tatsächlich immer noch, wenn auch deutlich weniger als früher - es ist eben nur eins von meinen Hobbies.

Wir haben bei uns in der Schule so eine Art “Geburtstags-Club”. Jeder Kollege, der mitmacht, zieht den Namen eines anderen Kollegen und überrascht das Geburtstagskind mit einem Geschenk auf dem Platz im Lehrerzimmer (wir haben natürlich, wie alle Lehrerkollegien in Deutschland, keine festen Plätze im Lehrerzimmer, aber natürlich sitzen trotzdem immer alle auf den selben Plätzen ;-)

Als ich im Frühjahr in Kalifornien war, habe ich zufällig diese Schnittmuster irgendwo im Internet gesehen:

Und fand das super. Gerade für Lehrer*innen, für Stifte, Lineal etc., alles immer dabei, schön zum reingreifen - Pult, Ranzen, Konferenzen....

ByAnnie ist nicht wirklich meine bevorzugte Schnittmustermarke, zum einen, weil man die Schnittmuster NUR gedruckt kaufen kann, was heißt, dass man oft von Laden zu Laden fährt auf der Suche und dann doch oft teuer online bestellen muss (in Amerika ist man selbst bei einem Schnittmuster oft mit 4 Dollar Porto dabei), weil das Schnittmuster nicht zu bekommen ist,  zum anderen weil ich pdf Schnittmuster bevorzuge (die finde ich wieder, wenn ich sie suche... man kann neu drucken, wenn man was ausgeschnitten oder versorgen hat) und auch weil ich mit den wenigen  byAnnie Schnittmustern, die ich schon benutzt habe, oft nicht wirklich glücklich war - irgendwie passt Annies Art, Schnitte zu konstruieren und mein Denken nicht gut zusammen. 

Aber egal, ich wollte das Schnittmuster, habe drei Läden abgeklappert, es letztendlich dann doch online bestellen müssen und es kam natürlich erst an, nachdem ich schon wieder zurückgeflogen war. 

Meine Tochter hat es dann Ende Mai mit nach Deutschland gebracht.

So, und nun wollte ich es für den Geburtstags-Club benutzen.

Wir haben gezogen als ich ganz neu angefangen hatte, ich kannte niemanden und konnte mir auch keine Namen merken - also habe ich mir nur das Geburtstagsdatum in den Kalender eingetragen und musste dann erst mal recherchieren gehen, wer dass den überhaupt ist.... Und stellte fest, dass der von mir zu beglückende Kollege einer unserer Sekretärinnen war... 

Dann kam die Juni-Box von “das mach ich nachts” und was war drin?

Ein Stück Mash von Annie, den man für dieses Schnittmuster braucht.

  So. Also muss unsere Sekretärin jetzt da durch, dass sie ein Flipping out bekommt. Eine kurze Internet-Recherche ergab, dass sie rosa und Pünktchen mag -auch die waren in der Box.

Und ta-dah, hier ist das gute Stück:

Gefüllt habe ich es jetzt mit einem Piccolo, einer Gesichtsmaske und einer Augenmaske.

Ne Schleife kommt natürlich auch noch drum ;-)

Das Schnittmuster:

- man braucht nur 2 Fat Quarter Stoff, einen (halben) Reißverschluss, ein bisschen Mesh (oder ein zusätzliches Stück Stoff von den Fat Quartern), ein Stück Soft and Stable / Pellom Foamflex und ein bisschen Fold over Gummiband (bei mir ersetzt durch Schrägband mit Häkelkante.

- man braucht außerdem viel Geduld und Spucke, besonders bei der kleinen Größe, die echt fummelig zu nähen ist. 

 

Technik: 

Ich weiß nicht. 

Am seltsamsten war der Teil, wo das Reißverschluss-Band benutzt wird, um den offenen Saum zu verdecken. Gott sei Dank habe ich einen Reißverschluss mit einem breiten Band gehabt, mit einem dünnen hätte das niemals funktioniert. Das war aber ein glücklicher Zufall, ausdrücklich erwähnt wird es nicht.

Hier habe ich dann auch noch mal die Nahtzugabe bestehend aus 2 Lagen Stoff, einer Lage Einlage und dem Soft and Stable knappkantig zurückgeschnitten, sonst hätte das niemals sauber funktioniert. Das war aber im Schnittmuster nicht angegeben.

Ob man das so machen muss, weiß ich nicht, ich glaube, ich würde es das nächste Mal doch lieber mit der konventionellen Methode des Einnähens zwischen Außenstoff und Futter und dann wenden versuchen. So richtig überzeugen tut es mich nicht.

Der Boden und der untere Rand werden individuell mit Schrägband versäubert und dann zusammengenäht, auch dass finde ich eher suboptimal, aber da wüsste ich jetzt auch keine bessere Lösung.

Definitiv nicht geeignet ist das gute Stück als “oh, wir müssen in 30 Minuten los, ich nähe noch mal schnell eine funktionale, wiederverwertbare Verpackung für das Geschenk. 

Aber für mich selbst werde ich noch ein Flipping Out nähen ;-)

Yeah, I know, it’s time to post about something different than books, but this one - once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. I finished it over the weekend.

This is THE perfect summer book.

Daphne, 26, is an influencer. 

One of these people making money on Instagram by posting sponsored content.

But it all started with a YouTube video of her being dumped by a pity date for being to big.

It was her frennemy Drue who started it all - and of course, it was the moment when Drue stopped being a friend Daphne finally stopped being the ugly sidekick who made her friend look even hotter.

Until now, Drue is going to get married and she wants Daphne as the head bridesmaid.

But why? What is Drue”s motivation after all?

What does she - rich heiress, business woman, super pretty - want from Daphne?

It is all a game to her?

the book is set in New York and Cape Cod - brining back sweet memories of both places.

It is a book about friendship and hate, love and desperation,

About instagram and reality

About appearances and and truth.

I could have totally done without the added crime story, and two me, it was the werkest part of the book with a rather unconvincing solution, but I really enjoyed all the rest.

Gelesen: Emma Lord - tweet cute 🇺🇸

Reading a YA book from time to time is like watching a TV series for teenagers: It’s funny, but is also so far away from my own youth, that it is not really relevant. 

In the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure if this wasn’t too young for me, but then it took up some steam and I really enjoyed reading the book.

Pepper moved from Nashville to New York after her parents divorced. Her mom turned their small burger shop into an international franchise, and Pepper is more or less in officially in charge of the company’s twitter account.

Jack was born and raised in the East Village, where his parents own a cafe in which he grew up. He is also handling the company’s twitter account, though is parents don’t believe they really need one.

Jack and Pepper attend the same private High School, and while not really friends, they decide to go to “war” on Twitter in the name of their respective businesses, gaining a huge followhip with their witty blanter.

There is much more to the story, and it has more depth then just the main story about funny and mean tweets.

I liked the book, it was a fun summer read, but it was definitely “fast food” for the brain.

I could picture is as a fun movie, though ;-)

Gelesen: Rebecca Serle - The Dinner List 🇺🇸

After loving “ in five years” I put a hold down for the dinner list.

Did you ever get this question?

Dead or alive, chose five people you would want to have a dinner with.

Jessica asked Sabrina to make this list  once, and magically, the evening of Jessica’s 30th birthday, that dinner happens.

At the table:

Her best friend and former college roommate Jessica

Her boyfriend Tobias,

her estranged dad Robert whom she hasn’t seen since he left when she was little

Conrad, a former college professor of philosophy and

Audrey Hepburn.

In alternating chapters, the story is devided between what is happening in the restaurant and a more or less chronological recount of Sabrinas life since college, focusing mostly on her love story with Tobias,  but the big question is, of course: why is this dinner even happening?

The tension at the table naturally runs high, and important questions are asked and old assumptions are up for evaluation  again.

But clearly, Tobias is the love of Sabrinas life, a love story by fate and love at first sight - or isn’t he?

I really liked the book, and it took some really interesting turns, like “in five years”. But it is not as “fun” as it might sound, and I felt like the end left me a little bit hanging.

Good, but not stellar, overall, I liked in five years better.
