🇩🇪 🇺🇸Check in Sunday / Check in am Sonntag

 last week's check in didn't happen because I woke up with a migraine on Sunday and it took me half a day to get my body to work, but I am totally fine with a bi-weekly rhythm. It's not like it's super exciting right now anyways.

Spring has sprung, very suddenly. On Monday, we still had tons of snow and traffic came to a standstill everywhere, now we have temperatures in the 50s. Eerie.

Letzten Sonntag ist der check in ausgefallen, hauptsächlich, weil ich mit Migräne aufgewacht bin und erst am Nachmittag wieder Ähnlichkeit mit einem Mensch hatte. Aber 14 tägig reicht ja auch, wenn eh wenig passiert.

Der Winter ist hoffentlich endlich vorbei. Solide zweistellige PLUS Temperaturen. Guck man raus, kann man sich schon gar nicht mehr vorstellen, dass noch am Montag die dicksten Schneeflocken gefallen sind, die man sich vorstellen kann, und der ganze Verkehr zusammengebrochen ist. Sagenhaft.

Gelesen / Reading

Ich habe tatsächlich ein Buch zu Ende gelesen: When no one is watching von Alyssa Cole. Darüber schreibe ich noch mal separat. 

Ausserdem habe ich gestern einen Bücherstapel aus der Lieblings-Buchhandlung bekommen. Da ist für jeden hier was dabei. Ich freue mich ganz besonders auf das neue Buch von Benedict Wells.

I also picked up a stack of paper books from my favorite local bookstore. For the whole family. I am looking forward to read the new book by Benedict Wells especially.

Sewing / Genäht

Well, nothing, of course. Duh. But I am participating in a pouch swap and I am very excited about it.

I am going to make a magic pouch (or a Devon pouch?) or both? and I am super stoked because I wanted to sew both for myself anyway, so my swap partner is a great fit.

If it wasn't for stupid Corona, I would be on a quilting retreat this weekend, by the way. Thanks for nothing, Covid19.

Nichts, natürlich. Aber ich mache mit bei Minerva Huhns Däschle-Tausch 2021 und bin total voll Vorfreude und Planungen. 

Ich werde entweder eine Magic Pouch oder eine Devon pouch oder vielleicht sogar beide :-) nähen, und weil ich beide sowieso schon für mich selbst machen wollte, ist das doch echt ein genialer Treffer mit meinem Wichtel. 

Übrigens wäre dieses Wochenende mein Quilt-Wochenende gewesen. Danke für nichts, kack Covid19.

Stricken / Knitting

Ja. Meine Freundin und ich haben zunächst heiß diskutiert, ob wir den Erikka Slipover genial oder hässlich finden, und jetzt sind wir beide mitten drin im Stricken. Ich nutze meine Wolle voll aus und stricke immer wieder von vorne. Es sind auf jeder Seite 4 (in Worten VIER) Randmaschen, die nicht glatt rechts gestrickt werden, und das reicht bei mir dafür, dass ich schon einmal komplett von vorne anfangen musste. Aber jetzt läuft es.

Mein Lucia Tuch ist letzten Sonntag noch um eine Reihe gewachsen, und heute macht er das auch noch mal. Strick-Meditation, sozusagen.

Ende März will ich unbedingt bei dem Jona Cardigan Knit along von Lotilda mitmachen. Wolle habe ich auch schon ausgesucht: Mitnatsol von CamaRose in  Gammelrosa (15 Knäuel - aua). Ich muss nur noch mein Sparschwein leeren... Sollte es mir sie jemand schicken wollen, ich gebe euch sehr gerne meine Adresse  :-)

Überhaupt, ich könnte jeden Tag ein neues Projekt anfangen. Aber ich glaube, ich mache jetzt erst mal Errika fertig.

I could easily start a new project each day. Last week, my friend and I had to discuss if we like Erikka or if it is ugly - slipovers are the new knitting craze in Europe. Now, we are smack in the middle of knitting one. This pattern only has 4 (FOUR) stitches that are not basic knit and purl at the edges, but that was enough to send me into starting over and over more than once.

My Lucia Shawl grew by one row last week, it's going to grow by another one today. It's knitting meditation.

At the end of march, I am going to participate in the Jona Cardigan knit along. I fell hard for this one, and I already have the perfect yarn in mind. I'll have to slaughter my piggy bank.

I could start a new knitting project each day, but I am going to finish Erikka as fast as I can first.

Gekocht / gekocht

Nothing super exciting. But something funny:

One of the better "food in a pouch" companies in Germany has one for Mac'n cheese, and I wanted to get my hands on it for months. No store carried it, or it was always sold out. I found it 10 days ago, but Tessa got it into her fingers, and she didn't read the instructions how to use it. So it was kind of weird, but not bad ( I think she just cooked noodles and then added the powder to the cooked noodles. Because she couldn't find cheese in the fridge (there was plenty, even sharp cheaddar) it had an odd consistency. Kind of dusty-crumbly.

So when I came by the grocery store where I found it the next time, I bought another pouch to prepare it the proper way. With the store pouch dissolved in liquid. It didn't taste like Mac'n cheese at all, but it was okay-ish. Quite frankly I liked my kids version better.

Nichts wirklich aufregendes, aber was lustiges.

Seid ihr auch schon über die Werbung von Just Spices für Mac and Cheese gestolpert? ich liebe Mac and Cheese....

Leider habe ich es nicht geschafft, meine Finger an eine Packung zu bekommen, bis ich letzte Woche eine bei REWE gefunden habe.

Leider hat meine Tochter sie dann in ihre Finger bekommen,  und nicht die Anleitung gelesen, sondern es einfach nach Gutdünken zu bereitet. Also einfach die Nudeln normal gekocht, und dann das Pulver drüber geschüttet. Käse konnte sie im Kühlschrank nicht finden (3 Sorten waren drin....) also ohne. Es hat interessant geschmeckt, aber zwischen den Zähnen geknirscht. Also noch mal eine Packung besorgt und richtig zubereitet. Erstens: es schmeckt überhaupt nicht wie Mac and Cheese. und jetzt kommts:  Die Version meiner Tochter schmeckte ernsthaft besser. 

Solltet ihr Mac and cheese mal probieren wollen: Bei Smitten Kitchen gibt es drei fabelhafte Rezepte (schnell und einfach, etwas länger in der Zubereitung und einfach, etwas aufwändiger) die alle drei echt gut sind.  Das wichtigste an Mac and Cheese is reifer (sharp) cheddar. Also nicht ubedingt der orangene, sondern der weiße, krümelige, der gibt Mac and cheese das richtige Aroma.

Und sonst / else

Mein Mann ist am Montag 50 geworden, also wir sind jetzt offiziell irgendwie im gesetzten Alter. Wir sind jetzt echt so alt, wie die Eltern meines Mannes waren, als wir uns kennengelernt haben. Wir feien in 2,5 Jahren Silberhochzeit. Alter, wie konnte DAS passieren? Wo 1995 doch gerade erst mal 5 Jahre her ist, eigentlich. 

Noch eine Woche bis zu den Ferien. Ich bin so was von ferienreif. Und zugleich total genervt von der Aussicht, schon wieder 2 Wochen nur in meiner Wohnung abzuhängen. Immerhin total aufregend: Ich habe eine Verabredung zum Spaziergang mit einer Freundin, die ich seit 6 Monaten nicht gesehen habe.

Wie klein das Leben geworden ist.

Am Freitag habe ich mit meinen Kindern "News of the world" (Netflix) geguckt. Alle Daumen hoch, toller Film, insbesondere  Helena Zengel (Systemsprenger). Was für ein Talent.

My hubby turned 50 on Monday. Can't believe it, we are officially old. We are as old now as his parents were when we met. we are going to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2,5 years. How did this happen? Wasn't 1995 just like 5 years ago?

Just one more week until spring break. I am totally worn out, but I am also solidly depressed by the prospect of hanging out in my Appartement for two weeks straight. The most exciting plan so far: meeting a friend for an outdoor walk that I haven't seen in 6 month. What a small world it has become.

This article in the NYT captures the mood in Germany right now perfectly. We wait. We wait. We wait. 

I watched "News of the World" on German Netflix this week. In the US, you apparently have to rent it of amazon for $20. Still worth it. Great movie, and the best actor is not Tom Hanks, but German Helena Zengel, who was already in the academy awards nominated movie "System Crasher" (must watch!)
