delicious, dairy-free cake: The mother-in-law-cake

I was challenged a few weeks ago with the task to bake a dairy-free cake. Something I never had to do before.
I asked family & friends, and my brother in law's wife recommended me the "mother in law cake".
It was delicious, so I gonna share the recipe with you.

Schwiegermutter-Torte - mother in law cake:

12 pieces

Knead-Dough:

1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 stick butter or shorting
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking powder

soften butter, and knead everything until combined.
Press into a spring form

Drain a jar off cherries, Spread one jar of cherries on top

 (Use the juice to make a delicious beverage: 1/3 of juice, 2/3 seltzer oder sparkling water. It is called Kirsch-Schorle in Germany and can be made with any kind of juice)

Now make a sponge-mixture:

4/5 Stick butter or shortening
3/4 cup sugar
add 3 eggs, batting for 2 minutes after every egg
1 cup almond meal (trader joes), or any other nut meal (filberts should be great!)
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Spread the sponge mix over the cherries.

Bake in the oven on 325 Degrees for 60 Minutes.

Spread 1 cup of melted semi-sweet chocolatchips (add a knife point of coconut oil) on top (or substitute for frosting, as desired). Decorate, if you want to.

PS I tried to get a clue why this cake is called mother in law cake, but I didn't find anything.

I guess, because this cake is easy to make but tastes great, so you can easily impress your mother in law.

(Or, because she is allergic to nuts and this is a sure way to kill her)

PPS ja, ich habe dank der Fotos auch gesehen, dass die Tasche schief aufgenäht ist, das korrigiere ich noch.

PPS ja, und da das grün des Blattes nicht zum grün des Bandes passte, bin ich auch noch mal zum Wollladen gefahren und habe für 6,36 Dollar ein neues grünes Wollknäuel gekauft. Prima, da wird auch bei diesem Kundenauftrag mit Sicherheit kein Gewinn uebrigbleiben *seufz*

I made another Lieblingskleidchen today,

but this time I changed the pattern, and instead of using bias tape,
I doubled the upper part of the dress.
I really like how it looks like now.

I used Now we are going places fabric, which I had in my stash, and I think it looks like a really nice summer-travel-dress:

My daughter was willing to be my photo model, so I think I will have to rise her allowance :-)

Did something like this ever happen to you?

Today, I was in San Francisco.

And I wanted to go to this oh so nice looking fabric shop over there.
Google told me, they would open at 11.30 am.
I arrived there at 11.25, put all my quarter in the meter and walked to there door.
There was a sign saying that Monday to Friday they open at 12.00. pm *sigh*
So I went down some blocks, bought an Ice Tea at Starbucks, and was back at 12.00 pm. Still closed.
I walked in the other direction, bought a Banana at a Grocery store and was back at 12.15. Still closed.
Meanwhile, my meter had expired, and I decided to give up and drive away.

I really wanted to like that shop, it looked cute, nice decorations, a lot of chidrens fabric.

Did something like this ever happened to you?
what would you do? Write an email to the owner telling her?
write a bad review in your blog or on google?
Forget about it?

für einen meiner Nähauftraege habe ich mir das Schnittmuster "Lieblingskleidchen" gekauft - ich weiss, ihr durchschaut dass das nur eine blöde Ausrede zum shoppen war,weil ich 100 andere bereits in meinem Besitz befindliche Schnittmuster hätte nehmen können, aber egal, ich glaube mir!.


Aber bevor ich das Kleid in Gr. 68 als Kundenauftrag nähen kann, musste ich es erst mal ausprobieren - also habe ich gestern Abend für Tessa schnell ein Kleid genäht. In Gr. 86

Das Kleid ist super fix genäht zumindest theoretisch, ich habe ca. 90 Minuten gebraucht, ich glaube, dass kann man aber auch in der Hälfte der Zeit schaffen. Je nachdem, wie lange man braucht, um festzustellen, dass man zum bereits zugeschnittenen Stoff nicht das passende Schrägband hat (such, such...), dieses daher selbst machen muss (wo ist der Schrägbandformer abgeblieben? Wie ging das noch mal? Was, den schönen Stoff SCHRAEG anschneiden?), und dann annähen. Blöderweise ist auch noch mein Stylefix alle und die Rolle schweineteures Wondertape hat sich irgendwo versteckt, so dass ich das echt mit NADELN feststecken musste. Mit NADELN! Total retro, irgendwie. Und echt pieksig. Das Webband musste ich auch mit Nadeln feststecken, das habe ich ewig nicht mehr gemach.

Das Kleid passt wirklich super, es ist ganz einfach anzuziehen (schön grosse Kopföffnung) und der Tochter gefällt es auch. Vor allem wegen der Tasche, in der man ganz prima seine Süßigkeitenvorraete lagern kann:

Und es bietet auch genügend Bewegungsfreiheit:

(ja, das Kind ist ein bisschen verrückt. Ja, sie ist da ganz alleine raufgeklettert. Nein, sie hat keine Angst. Nein, sie ist auch nicht runtergefallen, sondern runtergeklettert).

Das Schnittmuster hat alle Tests bestanden und wird noch häufig Verwendung finden :-)

Schnittmuster: Lieblingskleidchen / Erbsenprinzessin
Stoff: rosa mit weissen Punkten aus dem örtlichen Stoffladen (moda basics oder so), der schwarze mit den Vögeln natürlich Stoff & Stil (gibt es jemanden, der das noch nicht wusste?)

PS ich erinnere mich an mein Versprechen, und nächste Woche wird es die Verlosung zum 100. Verfolger *g* geben :-) Ich danke euch allen, auch den Lesern, die mir per RRS oder was auch immer treu sind. Wo mir hier zu Hause schon nie jemand zuhört, ist es echt ein tolles Gefühl, mit meinem blog so viele treue Zuleser zu erreichen. Wer hätte das jemals gedacht?

Graduation

I wanted to try a new dress pattern for girls, and as it was my son's elementary school graduation today, I made a new dress for my little daughter.
The name of the dress is "Lieblingskleidchen" (most favorite little dress) and I think, that is a good name for this dress, because:

it is really easy and quick to sew (it took me about one hour),
no buttons, no zippers, just bias tape (the only difficulty)
you can use fabric scraps or left overs - really small pieces,
it looks nicely and the pattern offers a lot of opportunities to mix and match fabrics

As for my daughter,
she loves that it is easy to put on and that is has a big pocket.
For example, you can put candies in there so that you have easy access to them:

(Yes, there was a lot of temptation to add some piping between joke and skirt, but I resisted. This was just a quick trial dress. This time I decided to go with woven ribbon.)
